I recently visited Bob Gurr at his Tujunga home near Glendale for an interview for the just released DVD,The Attraction Series: The Haunted House and I was treated to a home filled with many of Bob's work. One of the most impressive piece was a life size blueprint of his animatronic Abraham Lincoln. The design showed various mechanical parts all within the frame of the president.
Bob also shared his Legend window, of which all Disney theme park contributors get a window down Main Street and a smaller replica sent to their home. He had many drawing and artwork, but one image was most impressive, that of a piece of track taken from Walt Disney's home train. The wood track, rail and nail is displayed within a frame with a photo of Walt with his train. It was a very special moment to be so close to a historical item from a historical young man.
If you ever get a chance to meet Bob Gurr you'll find that he is a very nice man who makes you feel like you've been friends for years. I still chuckle heartedly when he opens the door and says, "Oh hi, Jerry."
He still remembers my name.
