AMERICA SINGS
June 29, 1974 - April 10, 1988
America Sings was a beloved, patriotic Audio-Animatronic musical stage show that operated in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland from 1974 to 1988. Taking up residence in the Carousel Theater, the production replaced General Electric's Carousel of Progress after that attraction moved to Walt Disney World. The show was known for its rotating theater format, which allowed audiences to transition seamlessly between four distinct acts, each representing a different era of the American musical landscape.
Created to celebrate the upcoming American Bicentennial, the attraction featured a cast of over 100 stylized, singing cartoon animals performing a whistle-stop tour of American musical history. Led by the host, Sam the Eagle (voiced by Burl Ives), and his sidekick, Ollie the Owl, the ensemble guided guests through a chronological medley of folk, jazz, blues, and rock. The intricate character designs and lighthearted tone made it a standout example of Disney's classic entertainment era. Following its closure in 1988, many of the show's Audio-Animatronic figures were famously repurposed for the Splash Mountain attraction, ensuring their legacy continued for decades.
